Amit Shah recalls Sardar Patel’s unforgettable contribution in uniting India | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Home minister on Tuesday paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary by recalling his unforgettable contribution to uniting more than 550 princely states of an India left fragmented by the British rulers, and creating the present day map of ‘Mother India’.
Shah, who flagged off the Run for Unity from Major Dhyan Chand stadium here and and administered the National Unity Day Pledge to mark the birth anniversary of ‘Iron Man of India’, said that it was due to Sardar Patel’s determination, devotion to duty towards the nation and intentions as solid as iron that India stands with respect in front of the world after 75 years of independence.
“Sardar Patel made an unforgettable contribution to uniting this vast country, spread from Kashmir to Lakshadweep, and this country can never repay his debt,” Shah said and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given due respect to Patel by building his statue, the world’s tallest, in Kevadiya, Gujarat.
The home minister said the National Unity Day this year has a historical significance as it is the first one of ‘Amrit Kaal’ — the 25-year period between the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ marking 75 years of Independence and the 100th year of Independence. Noting that the Prime Minister has called upon Indians to observe Amrit Kaal as ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ (fulfilment of resolve), he exhorted citizens to take a pledge and help realise Sardar’s dream of making India a global leader by 100th year of Independence.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Shah and Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena paid floral tributes to Patel on Tuesday. Among those who attended the Run for Unity event were Vinai Kunar Saxena, I&B minister Anurag Thakur, junior minister for external affairs Meenaksh Lekhi and junior home ministers Nityanand Rai, Ajay Kumar Mishra and Nishith Pramanik.
