‘Pre-fixed match by a kangaroo court’: Mahua reacts
Reacting to the expulsion recommendation, Moitra said this was a ‘pre-fixed match by a kangaroo court.’ She was quoted by PTI as saying, “”This is a pre-fixed match by a kangaroo court, which is of no surprise or consequence. But the larger message for the country is that for India, it is death of parliamentary democracy.”
“Even if they expel me, I will be back in the next Lok Sabha with a bigger mandate,” she added.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra in Deep Trouble: Parliament Ethics Panel Recommends her Dismissal from Lok Sabha
Prejudiced and incorrect, say opposition MPs
The four opposition members on the panel said the report recommending Moitra’s expulsion was ‘prejudiced and incorrect.’ Before today’s meeting, BSP MP Danish Ali accused Ethics Committee chairman and BJP members of leaking the proceedings of the panel in violation of rules.
Talking to reporters while on way to attend the meeting of the committee which is taking place to adopt a report against Moitra in the cash-for-query allegation, Ali said in violation of the rules, Sonkar and BJP members of panel leaked details of the proceedings.

‘Breach of rules’: Mahua writes to LS Speaker
Earlier today, Mahua Moitra had alleged breach of Parliament rules after a section of media carried reports citing the findings of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee.
In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker, the TMC MP alleged that the media channel which accessed the report is majorly owned by the Adani group, against whom she has raised very serious issues of corporate fraud and breach of financial and securities regulations in the Lok Sabha.
The committee has earlier heard Moitra, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who filed the complaint against her, and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai. Based on information shared by Dehadrai, the BJP MP accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.

What happens next?
According to former Lok Sabha Secretary General P. D. T. Achary, speaker Om Birla now has the authority to decide whether to make the report public. In the upcoming session of Parliament, the committee’s chairperson will present the report in the House. Following that, there will be a debate on the matter, culminating in a vote on a government motion for the member’s expulsion.
Achary said that this could mark a potentially historic moment as the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee might be recommending the expulsion of a Member of Parliament for the very first time.
Back in 2005, 11 MPs faced expulsion from Parliament in a different ‘cash-for-query’ case. However, it’s worth noting that those expulsions were proposed by the Rajya Sabha Ethics Committee and a Lok Sabha Inquiry Committee.
