When Madhuri Dixit revealed she rejected Hum Saath Saath Hain because of Salman Khan – Times of India

Director Sooraj Barjatya‘s 1999 film Hum Saath Saath Hain featured a star-studded cast, including Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Karisma Kapoor, and Neelam Kothari, among others. The story is set in a quintessential joint Indian family, highlighting the harmonious and close-knit relationships among its members.
But many might not know that Hum Saath Saath Hain was supposed to be a reunion of Salman and Madhuriafter Hum Aapke Hain Koun.In an earlier interview with Rediff, Madhuri had revealed that she rejected the film because of Salman Khan.
Opening up about her particular reason of turning down the film, Madhuri had said that she had a chat with Sooraj about the role she could play in the film since she could not turn down offers from the director. She was offered Tabu’s role Sadhna in the film.

She also mentioned that she could take Karisma or Sonali’s roles but Sooraj didn’t find it suitable for her. She then felt that it could be challenging to portray a bhabhi-devar relationship with Salman after playing his love interest in Hum Aapke Hain Koun. She felt that it might not be well-received by the audience.

“There is a scene in the film where Salman touches Tabu’s feet and he hugs Tabu. So there has to be this bhabhi-devar feeling between the two. But if you put me in Tabu’s place and visualize Salman touching my feet, I think people would have hooted in the theatres. I think its right, because of

HAHK, which was a love story between Salman and me,” Madhuri had explained.
Hum Saath Saath Hain was well-received by audiences and is still remembered for its wholesome and family-centric storytelling. The movie also features a melodious and memorable soundtrack composed by Raamlaxman. Songs like Maiyya Yashoda, Yeh To Sach Hai Ki Bhagwan Hai, and A B C D remain popular even years after the film’s release.
